The Guns of Texas
The year is 2026. For over a decade there has been many a heated debate over the 2nd amendment right to “keep and bear arms”. It would seem now though that president elect J.W. Booth has decided to take action. Tired of the same old Rhetoric, President Booth has decided to step in and make a presidential decree, banning not only the sale of firearms within US borders and territories, but also making the possession of said firearms illegal. In a statement broadcast, he stated:
“The very device which was used to secure our independence now threatens our own national security. The right of the people to possess firearms as Guaranteed by the Second Amendment has spiraled out of control. Guns are bought and sold on our nation’s street corners without the checks and balances set up to protect the average citizen. As much as it pains me to do so, I have ordered that the sale and possession of said arms, as guaranteed by the constitution, to be suspended indefinitely. I have created a new arm of the federal government whose sole purpose will be the gathering of all firearms and enforcement of this presidential decree. The B.F.R ., Bureau of Firearms Reclamations, is hereby tasked with the recovery of ALL firearms within the borders and territories of the United States of America, and the closing of weapons and munitions factories who do not hold a federal contract for supplying law enforcement or the military.”
Montana and Texas were the first to secede from the union, as guaranteed by their state charters. President Booth took this as an “Open act of treason” and ordered the BFR. to immediately enter these states, and by whatever means necessary, restore order and enforce compliance to the new “presidential decree”. Montana fell within 4 days. Texas? Well that’s another story…
Enter Edward J. Haskell:
Edward James Haskell was born and raised in Gonzales, Texas. A firm supporter of the NRA, Eddie also had some “black market” connections that were able to supply him with a few rather “exotic” firearms. As a collector and avid firearms enthusiast, Eddie finds the new order by President Booth not only distasteful…but downright Un-American. Eddie’s 3rd generation grandfather was a militiaman in the war for Texas Independence, and it was rumored that he actually fired the first shot of the revolution in Gonzales that started the war for Texas Independence from Mexico. The phrase, “You want it? Come and take it!” had been bantered around between uncles, brothers and cousins for generations within the family as a playful challenge for family rough-housing. But now…it was taking on a whole new meaning for young Eddie. Determined that the State of Texas would not suffer the same fate as Montana, Eddie formed “The Sons of Liberty”, an organization to not only assure Texas’s successful succession from the Union, but to resist President Booth’s attempts to “restore order and enforce compliance”, and Eddie has help. Not only did some military personnel defect to the Sons of Liberty, bringing with them scores of military weaponry, but he also has a black market contact nicknamed “The Ghost” , who can get Eddie anything he needs…or desires in the arms realm….for a price.
The Conflict:
On October 22nd, 2026 the regional leaders of the BFR were gathered in Amarillo, their only toehold in Texas. After 8 long months of fighting, and the deaths of thousands on both sides, Amarillo had finally fallen. The general population of America had become quite uneasy with the confrontations and had deemed the Texas Conflict as “The Second Civil War.” With pressure mounting on President Booth, he’d ordered that the conflict in Texas must end immediately, regardless of what measures had to be taken. “There will be no “Collateral Damages”. Going forward the citizens of Texas must now be considered as combatants, and as such, will ALL be treated as combatants. I want this situation resolved within 48 hours.” The assault on Texas would come in the form of a 4 pronged attack, with a “deep strike unit” under the command of Regional Director James Robert Dean. His group was to be tasked with the eliminating the command structure of the Sons of Liberty. The plan was to take Gonzales by a swift and forceful strike, eliminating all components of the SOL’s command structure, confiscate all arms, and set into place a heavily armed Forward Operating Base that would be capable of launching offenses from the south. Surprise was the chief element in the success of such a raid…and as fate would have it…a leak in the system provided the crucial Intel to Eddie Haskell. With word of the impending strike, Eddie masterfully orchestrated the evacuation of all Gonzales residents who were unable to participate in the resistance. Calling upon all men and women who could carry a rifle into battle, Eddie sounded his battle cry from the Cradle of Texas Independence, “You want it? Come and take it!” And on October 24th, 2026, Regional Director James Robert Dean’s task force will oblige the challenge.
