...Seriously!
On May 31st, 2009 161 players took to the field to participate in probably one of the wackiest games of the year. "Pyrates - The Port Royale Challenge"
We hope you enjoyed the treasure hunts, the role playing, the special characters, being able to bribe the refs, the livestock raids and the multitude of firefights during the event.
There are always so many people to thank...so let me get started.
First off, thank you to all the players who came to the event. The sportsmanship was terrific, the play was fast and clean. You folks had a lot to do with how well this event ran. We started DHS to bring scenario ball back to H-Town, but without you folks...it would've been just another pipe dream. Because of your support and enthusiasm, it's working!
To Jim and the crews at both North and South. Thanks for believing in us and giving us a chance to do this. The players appreciate it, and so do we.
To Darin and Aaron, ( Razor and Elguapo respectively), Guys...from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Stepping up to your roles the way you did REALLY helped progress our story line. Your costumes were great and the enthusiasm and leadership you both provided was awesome. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
To Pants...dude...you were unbelievable...as always. Thanks for coming alll the way from OK. to help us with this one bro. Davey Jones was definitely one of the "coolest" characters on the field!
To Karl, (Dragon), thank you for all you did both pregame and during the event. Your contributions to the storyline helped to mold the game, and your interactions with the players during it brought the game to a whole new level.
To Karey, (Anne Bonny)..my beloved wife. Thank you for for all you did to help us pull this one off. Your thoughts, ideas, patience, and hard work pulled the millions of ideas together and balled it all up into 1 great event. Just so everyone knows.. it was Karey who brought up the idea of the "Pyrate School" for the young guns...and then helped us to develop it. That's what I call "thinking outside of the box!
To Tamra, Who ever so patiently, helped with registrations, (while in costume), and the voting for the costume contest. We appreciate all your assistance!
To Scott, (Boss), Thanks so much for coming out to take the official photos for the game! and also, thanks for your assistance onfield during the event.
And speaking of onfield...
Thanks go out to the teams that made up the reffing staff. Deadhorse, Texas Rangers, Warthogs, Twisted Toons, Blacklist and Total Insanity. Super shout out goes to my friend Kelly, who gave up his comp to ref the event when we had three refs drop out at the last minute. He also provided us with our Command trailer for the event. Bro..what would we do without you?
Trips...my brother...words will never be able to express my gratitude for what you have done to make our launch such a success. The key to a successful event is the reffing staff and their leader. Without that...it just doen't work...period. I'm not going to go into details...but I know what you do onfield and off, before, during, and after the event. We the producers, and the players love and appreciate you. Thank you for being our friend.
Seven...most would tell you that you've got some really big shoes to fill. Brother, I will say only this. Both Trips and I have heard those same words spoken to us before. Our approach was to pick those old shoes up and gently move them out of the way, and step into that hallowed spot, with our own shoes on and make it ours. I have no doubts that you are capable of this and will succeed. Know that you will always have not only our support, but the players as well as we embark on this new adventure.
Capt Mav, Thanks for stepping into the chrono range and helping us get those player ready for game on. This action helped to assure our event started on time. (which is very important to us) Thank you sir!
Sarge...Thanks for showing up to the game and your contributions to both the prize package and the event. It was good to see the old man out there slinging paint and having some fun for a change! We're glad you could make it!
Viper...Hope the Chicago game went well and sorry you couldn't be here. But, thank you so much for your contributions to our prize package.
Liam, (lapdance), of the "Pirates Cove" @ TRF. Thank you so much for the game oriented prize package that you put out for the event. Your contributions to the event helped tremendously by addding "Atmosphere" to the game both during the event and afterwards. (and the cigars were Kick***!)
Our unsung hero's at Palmer's Pursuit and Smokin Paintball. Thank you guys for for your donations to the prize package. As well as your committment to the players in the sport. Your generosity, (and you know what I'm talking about), is so greatly appreciated. DHS is PROUD to be sponsored by two such upstanding companies who literally do keep the players in their hearts. Gentlemen we thank you. (Lifts a glass of Glennfiddich to toast both!)
Dave "Chronos" Henderson...brother, (and I am very proud to call you that), Thank you so much for the BEAUTIFUL custom built gun for the Costume Contest. That piece of art inspired many to dress up in costume and play IN COSTUME for the event. Huge inspiration brother, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
To all those who came and played in costume...Folks, you are tremendous. We here at DHS thank ALL OF YOU for adding to the "atmosphere" of the game. It was awesome watching you all running about the field in costume.
And our final unsung heros...who displayed sportmanship above and beyond the call of duty. HUGE thanks go out to the Warthogs, who did indeed change sides to level out the numbers. Foxtrot and Arkham's Asylum, who offered to switch sides prior to the event in order to keep the event on a level keel. Guys and Gals...it is this type of actions that enforce the idea that this is a game and all about fun. We are proud that such teams freely choose to be associated with our events, and we appreciate the sportmanship that they demonstrate.
Overall...we here at DHS feel the event was a huge success thanks to everybody. Thank you all for allowing us to bring our world to you..and for being a part of the fun!
