Are they really woth it? do they really help at all? maybe get a few bounces i guess, but my experience as a ref (which honestly isnt that long, about a year) has shown me that players with tac vests can get shot and not notice the hits. that in turn angers other players because they think the player is playing on. so would it be wise to invest in one? i think id be better off sticking with my speedball gear, my pod pack, because it can hold more pods. the tac vests ive seen hold about 4 plus a tank. but yall might know something i dont, so any input would be great, thanks

I like my LBV, got it just like I used to wear back in the day, albiet with paintballs/pods/tank vs what I used to drag around. I prefer just a pod pack for speedball/short games, but a long slog for hours and I like the shoulder padding, the remote line, the one point sling and the extra pockets for maps, snacks, hydration pouch and the occasional grenade.
There are good arguments for and against, so as like all things, YMMV.

When i used a remote line I never had a problem with snags and such, but I never went running full speed through brush either. The only problem I had with remote lines was the lack of a stock (tank). I only break out the remote line when I use my 98c now because it has a stock, just feels weird without one... or a tank.

There are ways around the flapping remote line. My Blackhawk tac vest had loops at the bottom for attaching the pistol belt. It worked great for feeding the remote line through, which held it to my waist and didn't allow for flapping around. Zip ties will do the same thing.
Biggest thing to remember is that not all tac vests are created equal. Take the time to look at several different ones before buying. TV's will help you carry more...but you need to decide if you're going to be a fast mover, recon, or defensive in your playing style. It also helps to know if you plan on being a high volume shooter or not. (pack vs. vest) Some vests allow you to strap on extra pod holders...just depends on how much weight you want to carry around and how long you plan to stay onfield. These ain't 3 minute speedball games...
Also to consider...while the vest usually has a compartment or attachment area for a camelback, vests are notoriously hot even when made from mesh fabric, like my blackhawk was. Regardless..they trap body heat. Summertime in Tejas...that DOES cause problems.
Don't jump into this bro...take your time, check out several different types, and watch the folks who are using them. You'll figure out what fits you and your style of play soon enough.

have any of yall seen that weird pack thing from medusa paintball? www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxPmI1fg6OQi dunno, sounds like a good idea, but i think it would get heavy fast, and retain heat.

I still kind of have mixed emotions about tac vests; there's a lot of pros and cons to consider. Like others have said, most of them do get hotter than your average pod pack, and yes, you can get lit up on the vest body and not feel it (been there, done that...oops!)which does cause a lot of yelling. Keep in mind though, the same can happen with a pack; every time I play I have to tell someone to check their pods for a break, so I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor. They are nice for the extra space to store stuff, and I do like how they distribute all of the extra weight better. My advice is to try a few on in the store or borrow one for an hour or so to try it out before you buy. At the end of the day though, it's all about preference.

The best one I've found for hot weather is the NXE Light Infantry Tactical Vest. Only draw back is that it only holds 4 pods. But it's cool and light. It has a back support like those on pod packs. It has a bladder pouch, tank holder, 4 pod holder, radio pouch, and a map pouch.
I had one got rid of it and got myself a tacatical vest and wish I still had it so I found one on Craiglist last week. Happy now...
Like stated above try as many as you can. Also make sure you have it adjusted to you before you decide it's not the right one. Adjustment does make a big different.
